Beneath the fortress of the sorcerer Watrys lies a hostile maze of mines, caverns, sealed crypts, and monster-filled corridors. The Keep is a first-person dungeon crawler built around the tense, methodical feel of classic RPG labyrinths, but it trades turn-based movement and combat for real-time encounters. Its fantasy realm is bleak rather than sprawling: humanity has failed to stop a crystal-corrupted evil, leaving one inexperienced warrior to descend into danger. Expect a deliberately unforgiving adventure where every new passage may hide treasure, a lethal trap, or another reason to reload.

Progress comes from pushing through compact dungeon floors, searching walls and rooms for switches, solving environmental puzzles, and gathering weapons, armor, consumables, and experience. Combat relies on directional mouse gestures instead of simple attack spamming; enemies defend different parts of their bodies, so reading an opponent and striking high, low, or at the head matters. Weapons have their own attack patterns, while the rune system lets players arrange limited magical symbols on a grid to create fire, ice, and lightning spells. Three difficulty settings accommodate different skill levels, but optional permadeath turns each mistake into a serious commitment and greatly raises the stakes.

Its strongest feature is the attempt to make old dungeon-crawling ideas feel tactile rather than merely nostalgic. Secret doors, pressure plates, trapdoors, and scarce resources encourage careful observation, while the rune-board spellcasting adds more experimentation than the usual mana-bar approach. The Keep is best suited to players who enjoy the claustrophobic exploration of Dungeon Master, Legend of Grimrock, or early first-person RPGs, and who do not mind repeated deaths while learning enemy behavior. Newcomers can start on the lower settings, but veterans looking for a compact, punishing fantasy crawl get the most from its tougher modes.
